Art and Design Technology
The
department consists of the two closely related subjects of Art & Design and
Design & Technology. The school has
four specialist rooms that are light, spacious and fitted with new and modern
equipment. The department also has
access to two specialist ICT rooms.
In both subjects pupils will engage in a range of activities that require them
to think creatively to plan, design, make and evaluate. The department is keen to promote a
caring environment where all pupils and staff feel happy and safe to work. Health and safety is regarded as
being of paramount importance and the teaching and learning of this continues
each year.
ART &
DESIGN
The
Art & Design department has a separate specialist room that contains large
practical tables, interactive whiteboard, free standing easels, a still life/3D
work area and a kiln room. The
department has also recently purchased camera and ICT software. Pupils engage in a wide range of
topics throughout the school to produce 2D and 3D artwork using a variety of
materials, tools and techniques.
Each year these topics ensure there is a progression in thinking skills,
development of ideas and expression and techniques in using art materials. Pupils will research and use a
variety of themes on which to base their
artwork by looking at art masters, 20th Century modern artists,
contemporary artists and artwork from past/other cultures. There are opportunities to explore
and experiment with pencil, charcoal, pastel, paint, printing, clay and
sculpture using other materials, collage and ICT.
DESIGN
& TECHNOLOGY
(Food
Technology, Textiles Technology, Resistant Materials, Systems and Control)
The
Design and Technology department has three specialist rooms that allow the
school to deliver the different disciplines of this subject.
Food Technology Room:
This
room has a design working area and a separate cooking section with ample
accommodation of gas/oven cookers, fridges, sinks and storage space. The kitchen area has a built in
extraction system and modern safety features.
Design Room:
This
room is available for pupils to engage in 2D design and 3D modelling work,
textiles, ICT related activities and can also be used as the second art room. It has an interactive whiteboard,
bank of computers, a vinyl cutter, sewing machines and a sink area.
Resistant Materials Room:
This
room is designed for pupils to participate in both 2D design and practical 3D
work. It is fitted with a range of
modern electrical machines – 2 hegner saws, 2 power drills, strip heater, vacuum
forming centre and a laser cutter.
The room is equipped with workshop tables, dust extraction units and an
interactive whiteboard.
All pupils engage in a wide range of projects that encourage them to think
creatively to find solutionsto design briefs/problems. Each year pupils carry out activities that
ensure progression in thinking skills, designing and making, taking account of
current issues. To achieve this,
children will research and use traditional and modern methods/technologies
